This copy of Microsoft Windows XP is not genuine - Want to bypass and remove this warning by disabling WGATray.exe ?

Windows XP Pirates have again found workaround methods to bypass the new Microsoft Anti-Piracy effort - Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications that notifies you through annonying pop-up messages if your copy of Windows is not genuine.

The WGA Notifications patch is installed if the user has opted to automatically update Windows via the Windows Update Website or if a XP users manually downloads the latest Windows updates.

A workaround posted on internet WGA install workaround (KB905474) suggests the following:

End the process wgatray.exe in Windows TaskManager and restart Windows XP in safe mode. Now delete the following files:

Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\windowss\ystem32
Delete WgaTray.exe from c:\windows\system32\dllcache

Start Windows Registry editor and delete the folder "WGALOGON" located in the following location:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\ Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinlogonNotify. Delete all references in your registry to WgaTray.exe

Another alternative suggest that three files are installed Windows XP System Folder:

\WINDOWS\system32\WgaLogon.dll
\WINDOWS\system32\WgaTray.exe
\WINDOWS\system32\LegitCheckControl.dll

The wgatray.exe process makes the check for genuine windows software. You can disable WGA by removing the execute bit on WgaLogon.dll. That way, winlogon can't call it as a notification package at boot, and since WgaLogon is responsible for running and maintaining WgaTray.exe, no more tray popups either.

To change the execute bit of WgaLogon.dll, first turn off Simple File Sharing. Now right click the file in Windows Explorer and open the Security Tab. Hit the Advanced button, uncheck the Inherit box at the bottom, hit the Copy button, then hit OK. Go through each listed user/group and remove the "Read & Execute" permission for that file, leaving the "Read" permission as-is.

Hit OK to apply the permission changes and close the file properties dialog. Restart the machine. You can now turn "Use simple file sharing" back on, if you want.

A third alternative posted on the internet suggest that users clear the content of file data.dat located in the following directory:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage\data

Save the data.dat empty file and change the attributes to "Read Only" - Restart you computer. Or start your PC in Safe Mode and delete the following files from Windows system32 folder - wgalogon.dll spmgs.dll wgatray.exe The WGA setup file is in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\ Download\6c4788c9549d437e76e1773a7639582a

If you don't use "Fast User Switching", you can disable the Windows XP Welcome Screen if you are logged in as an Administrator. This will remove the initial WGA Warning Screen:

1. Click on Start -> Control Panel ->User Accounts
2. Click on "Change the way users log on or off"
3. Uncheck "Use the Welcome Screen" - Choose Apply
4. Close the User Accounts window and the Control Panel
5. The next time you reboot your computer, the classic login prompt will be used

To enable Fast User Switching, you must also enable the Use the Welcome screen option. Also, Fast User Switching cannot be used when Offline Files are enabled.

Disable wgatray.exe - Some users are claiming that removing the WGATray.exe (or killing the WGATray.exe process) are working for them.

None of these methods are guaranteed to work and people are just experimenting. Meanwhile Microsoft is not willing to relent to crackers this time and are planning to release an update of WGADiag2.exe utility in the next few days.

WGADiag2 will also fix the problem with registry key permissions may cause the installation of Windows Genuine Advantage Notifications KB905474 to fail from Windows Update:

Here's a manual fix provided by Microsoft. These permissions can be repaired using Registry Editor as follows:

1. Click Start, and then click Run
2. In the Open box, type regedit, and then click OK
3. Expand HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
4. Locate the subkey HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\LegitCheckControl.LegitCheck
5. Right-click the subkey and select Permissions.
6. Ensure that Administrators allowed Full Control permission
7. Repeat steps 3-6 for the subkey

Microsoft has also published a kB article if the Windows Genuine Advantage (WGA) validation check process does not validate successfully on a Microsoft Windows XP-based computer, and you receive one or both of the following error messages:

This problem occurs when you do not have the appropriate permissions for the Windows Genuine Advantage\Data folder. In the Permissions for Users section, make sure that Read & Execute, List Folder Contents and Read permissions are given. If the previous steps fail, start the computer in Safe Mode and rename the %allusersprofile%\Application Data\Windows Genuine Advantage directory.

If you want to make a autorun file for that CD you are ready to burn just read this...

1) You open notepad
2) now you writ: [autorun]

How to Change Default Wallpaper Directory / Folder in Desktop Properties for Windows

We can easily change our desktop wallpaper by right-clicking on desktop, click “Properties, open “Desktop” tab, pick one of the provided wallpapers within the list and hit the apply button. However, when we want to change the desktop wallpaper with another one that is located within another folder, you’ll have to click the browse button to go to the folder and pick the wallpaper.

If you keep your favorite wallpapers in a separate folder and most of the time you rotate the wallpapers on the desktop, why don’t you just make the folder to be your default wallpaper directory? In this way, you don’t need to click the browse button every time you want to change the desktop wallpaper from Desktop Properties window.

How to change the default wallpaper directory

Open registry editor and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion

After you find the key, look the right pane and find the string value “WallPaperDir”.

The default value data of it is:
%SystemRoot%\Web\Wallpaper

This value data has to be changed. Double-click it and enter the location of your wallpaper directory or folder.

Mine is located in H:\Visual Styles Collection\Wallpaper\Sweet, so I change the default value data with the location.

That’s it. After you change it, you can close the registry editor window and open the Desktop Properties.

You’ll see that all of the wallpapers within the list are the ones that are located in the folder you set in the Registry editor.

Virtual Memory too low Warning Trouble in Win XP and Vista

When there is less physical memory than needed, then some virtual memory (Virtual RAM) is created on the disk. When there is a limit set to the size of Virtual Memory usage and there is not enough of it present there is a warning that frequently comes “Virtual Memory too low”.

Solution 1 :-
This problem occurs when physical RAM + Virtual RAM (usually created on hard disk) together are not sufficient to take care of the currently needed RAM size, or this situation is about to arise. This usually happens when some fixed upper limit for Virtual Memory has been set. To solve this problem, you can either upgrade you physical RAM on your computer (recommended), or you can set the Virtual Memory to system managed size or you can do both. Setting Virtual Memory to system managed size means windows will set it to higher size whenever needed automatically, for this,

Right click on My Computer --> goto Properties, goto Advanced tab, click on Performance Settings, now click on Advanced, now click on Change button for Virtual memory.

On this screen select the System Managed Size, press OK. After this re-start your computer. This will solve the virtual memory too low problem.

Solution 2 :-
Recommended solution is to upgrade your physical memory (RAM) according to requirements of the kind of applications that you run on your computer. If you upgrade RAM or not, the following procedure will help prevent this warning by increasing the virtual memory limit.

Right click on My Computer icon and click Properties.

This will show system properties window. Click on a Advanced tab and click on the Settings button under heading Performance.

This will open Performance options window. Click on Advanced tab and click on Change button under heading Virtual Memory.

Check if the space available is set to some custom value or double the RAM size ? If it is not double the RAM memory size , then select the size option set the virtual memory size double the RAM Size and press set button and press OK button.

Restart the computer.

Many methods of copy music from your iPod to the computer involve programs such as PodUtil. This method is simple and there are no outside programs to use.

See Step-to-Step Guide:

1. Plug your iPod in and wait for the computer to recognize it.

2. Open up 'My Computer' and under 'Devices With Removable Storage', double click and open apple iPod.

3. Click on 'Tools' at the top of the window and drag down to 'Folder Options'.

4. Under the 'View' tab, find the subfolder called 'Hidden files and folders'.

5. Select the option 'Show hidden files and folders'.

6. Click 'OK'.

7. Double click on the newly shown 'iPod_Control' folder and open up the folder called 'Music'. These folders are named randomly and your music is impossible to find individually.

8. Select all the folders and copy them to a new folder on your hard drive. You are now done with your iPod. Eject it if you wish.

9. Open up iTunes. In the new folder you created, open up each individual folder labeled 'F##' select all the music files in the folder and drag them into your library in iTunes. iTunes will already have the tags stored for these songs so renaming them should not be an issue.

10. Alternatively, Press F3 to enter search, and enter "*.mp3" (no quotes) to find all the MP3 files at once, then press CTRL+A to select all the found files then copy them to a folder on your computer. This way all the music files are in the same folder which makes it far more simple to import them into iTunes. (If any of your files are in MPEG4 format, you can search for "*.m*" to generate a list of all your songs.) (see Warning below)

Tips

* You can't drag a whole folder into iTunes. It will not recognize the file tags and you will not know which song is which.
* The detailed folder view in Windows XP will read the tags off of the mp3s and display the proper Artist, Title, and Album information. The columns should show up by default, but can be added if they do not. This may work for other versions of Windows (someone please verify).
* FYI: One more thing to note, If you have bought songs from itunes and the computer you are storing the songs on is not the computer you have purchased the songs from they will be copied but may not be played because of AAC format. This format is protected and may not be played on and other computer unless purchasing a licence which is the same price as the song in the first place

Warnings

If you follow the step #10, to copy all the songs at once, you may run into trouble if multiple songs in different 'F##' folders have been given the same random name. For example, you may have several different songs given the same name '01Track01.m4a'. When you try to copy them all to the same new folder on your computer, you will either not get all the songs from your iPod, or you will have to manually copy over all the duplicate named ones into separate folders, which is very time-consuming. It may turn out to be faster to use the first method above (copying each F## folder to iTunes separately).

You can use this method as often as you like when you need to repair something that had gotten corrupted and you don't want to do a clean install.

This is better than doing a windows repair install from the cd because doing that can cause changes to settings and even make it so you can't get updates anymore from microsoft update site because of the 'silent install' they did a year or so ago (unless you rereg some dll files).

1- Start WindowsXP
2- Go to the location of your source files
3- Run WINNT32 /unattend
For example, D:\I386\winnt32 /unattend ( copy & paste this command into the RUN box, then press ENTER ) Your computer will do the rest.

OR

Start > All Programs > Accessories > Command Prompt.
Copy & paste > D:\I386\winnt32 /unattend (notice the space between 32 and / )
Press Enter.
If you have i386 on your drive, you can replace D: ( if D: is your cd drive ) with the location of it. (be sure it's the full i386 though)

D: is the driver letter where your windows XP Cd is
if D:\I386\winnt32 /unattend doesn't work then try : d:\winnt32 /unattend.

If you have lost or forgotten a user account password in Win XP, simply log in as the computer administrator, and go to control panel, user accounts. Here you will be able to reset the password for any of the systems user accounts.

Slightly more work needed if you lose or forget the Windows XP administrator password.

First reboot Windows XP in safe mode by re-starting the computer and pressing F8 repeated as the computer starts up. Then (in safe mode) click Start and then click Run. In the open box type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes - I have just used quotes to differentiate what you have to type.

You will now have access to all the user accounts, including the administrators account and will be able to reset the lost password.

Just click the administrators user account, and then click Reset Password.

You will need to add a new password in the New password and the Confirm new password boxes, and confirm by clicking OK.

All done, you have recovered the lost administrators password!

2.Right click on it, press rename or simply press F2.
3.Press and hold the alt key. While holding the Alt key, type numbers 0160 from the num pad.
4.Press Enter and the nameless file or folder will be created.

The different types of viruses are as follows-

1) Boot Sector Virus :- Boot sector viruses infect either the master boot record of the hard disk or the floppy drive. The boot record program responsible for the booting of operating system is replaced by the virus. The virus either copies the master boot program to another part of the hard disk or overwrites it. They infect a computer when it boots up or when it accesses the infected floppy disk in the floppy drive. i.e. Once a system is infected with a boot-sector virus, any non-write-protected disk accessed by this system will become infected.

Examples of boot- sector viruses are Michelangelo and Stoned.

2) File or Program Viruses :- Some files/programs, when executed, load the virus in the memory and perform predefined functions to infect the system. They infect program files with extensions like .EXE, .COM, .BIN, .DRV and .SYS .

Some common file viruses are Sunday, Cascade.

3) Multipartite Viruses :- A multipartite virus is a computer virus that infects multiple different target platforms, and remains recursively infective in each target. It attempts to attack both the boot sector and the executable, or programs, files at the same time. When the virus attaches to the boot sector, it will in turn affect the system’s files, and when the virus attaches to the files, it will in turn infect the boot sector.
This type of virus can re-infect a system over and over again if all parts of the virus are not eradicated.

Ghostball was the first multipartite virus, discovered by Fridrik Skulason in October 1989.
Other examples are Invader, Flip, etc.

4) Stealth Viruses :- These viruses are stealthy in nature means it uses various methods for hiding themselves to avoid detection. They sometimes remove themselves from the memory temporarily to avoid detection by antivirus. They are somewhat difficult to detect. When an antivirus program tries to detect the virus, the stealth virus feeds the antivirus program a clean image of the file or boot sector.

5) Polymorphic Viruses :- Polymorphic viruses have the ability to mutate implying that they change the viral code known as the signature each time they spread or infect. Thus an antivirus program which is scanning for specific virus codes unable to detect it's presense.

6) Macro Viruses :- A macro virus is a computer virus that "infects" a Microsoft Word or similar application and causes a sequence of actions to be performed automatically when the application is started or something else triggers it. Is Google in Trouble & Facing Bankruptcy?

[NEW YORK - Wednesday] - by Devon Melk. Rumors are now running amok
that the 2nd most powerful website on the entire Worldwide-Web may
file BANKRUPTCY, with the deadline set for this December; being the
date of both discharge and dissolution in a Federal Court of Law.

This would come as a SHOCK to investors and "Googlers" alike who
both profit and benefit from the use of the World's largest and
most powerful search engine which receives far in excess of
100 MILLION unique daily visitors and well over 300 million
individual searches daily - making it perhaps the single most
valuable public data resource as an "information bank" online the
world over.

But is the rumor true or false?

The origin of the rumor occurred when some savvy Internet marketers
began making statements that they had heard "insiders' talk" that
the company (now publicly traded since April 30, 2004, just over 3
years ago) may face financial disaster with the release of a "new
system" that would allow advertisers to get their otherwise
pay-per-click (PPC) advertising completely free.

This, of course, would naturally lead directly (like a domino-
effect) to the collapse of Google's sibling program AdSense; as its
only revenue comes from the direct sales of AdWords "clicks."

The "new system" in question and responsible for the controversy
over getting AdWords pay-per-clicks free is that developed by
Dr Jon Cohen of New York City, New York (now retired) who discovered
a simple, yet effective means, for getting Google PPC ads without
having to suffer the costs involved.

The retired New York doctor and native has a publicly disclosed net
worth now in excess of $7O million [US], having generated well over
$377 million in product sales from sixteen (16) separate online
businesses within just nine (9) years since first venturing online
in 1998 (about the same time as Google was founded).

It is estimated by company insiders and leading financial analysts
that the "good doctor" (as he's called by "all who know him") has
purportedly saved well over $93 million (some estimates suggest
closer to $136 million) in otherwise paid advertising at Google and
the other major players in the PPC targeted-search arena online -
including Yahoo, MSN, AskJeeves, AllTheWeb.com, HotBot, AltaVista,
Lycos and Netscape, just to name a few.

The "secret" became available to the general masses last April, and
its very release caused such a major sweeping stir among the
community of Internet-marketers, affiliate-marketers, webmasters,
ecommerce company owners and surfers alike that the site quickly
rose to break the top most visited 1,000 websites on the entire
planet briefly; and as can be seen here:

When asked if the "secret" would somehow ruin Google, Dr Cohen
revealed almost cryptically that it actually would bring about just
the opposite effect, and "stimulate" even more business volume for
the virtual giant.

Many people were dismayed to find that Google itself is deliberately
allowing the purchase of 100,000's of PPC ads offering the secret
system to the general public -- which indicates to most observers
that either they [Google] haven't caught it, or they simply feel
that it somehow is not a threat to their continued operation.

For anyone's inspection factual and hard evidence supporting this
can be seen by simply looking to the right-hand column when doing a
search for "get google ads free" (specifically in quotation marks)
at Google.com under the "Sponsored Links" section.

You can also see nearly 100,000 specific results in the "organic"
fields index located in the center and which occupies the bulk of
the results pages.

One would think that if Google felt threatened by such a release as
this earth-shaking "secret" is, they would hardly allow for either
paid-ads or organic content to make the top searches regarding it.

However, evidence supports to the contrary - and this being the
case now for a full six (6) months.

Mysteriously, within just two (2) hours of its initial release last
April, Google itself actually did in fact 'pause' the parent firm's
attempts at advertising the new system using PPCs on their search
engine - only, however, to release the hold after a Review Team
consisting of some of Google's top executives completed performing
an in-depth investigation and made the determination to ALLOW the
ads to run.

The secret system was recently revised however to include "major
new content" and "more exhaustive instructions," and is now
available at its Home Site:

The most important addition is that of a so-called "string of code"
(tech-talk for some HTML) that can be added to any webpage(s) that
instantly causes the elimination of the page owner's AdWords costs
right away.

Even a "live" woman spokes-representative ("Rachel") has been added
to the site, and who appears to literally walk out onto the webpage
and talk to visitors and explain a bit more how the mysterious new
breakthrough system works.

Since the addition of this new "live" spokes-woman has now appeared
at the site, company Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Mr Todd
Coutrin states that "sales for the system have skyrocketed above
2,430% suddenly and with no limit in sight."

Coutrin continues: "With the newest revision now in place, plus all
the additions added, affiliates for the new system can expect to
earn even more than ever before!" (Note: Affiliates make up the
bulk of the firm's sales generation.)

The refund rate for the new revised version of the secret (named
V5.1) has dropped to less than half of what it was before the newer
version's release; meaning it's now even more readily-received and
put to use than ever before (perhaps in large part to the newer
simplicity of application) - now making it the safest and one of
the best resellers for the networks of affiliate marketers who earn
their revenues from the reselling of other electronic publishers'
stock and digital product lines.

When asked, Google company representatives stated matter-of-factly
that the rumors of bankruptcy for the ecommerce giant are simply
not true, and that the rumor millings are in fact simply the result
of "panics" brought on by the usual hysteria associated with
anything large, new or revolutionary - or in this case, all three.

Attempts to contact both Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the former
Stanford University students who founded Google in 1998, to request
comment were unsuccessful.

Again, Google itself seems to be the biggest supporter of the "new
system" as it's allowing more and more advertisers to promote the
new system on its search engine before over 100 million daily
searches and surfers.

The changing world of interviewing

With the price of gas and travel skyrocketing, many companies are cutting back on the number of face-to-face job interviews that they conduct. Instead, companies are resorting to alternate interviewing strategies that include multiple phone interviews, videoconferencing interviews and yes, even virtual interviews (check out Second Life) —how cool is that!!!!

This means that job candidates must adapt to these new format in order to remain competitive. I came across an article that discusses how to approach and successfully manage these new interviewing formats.

Just remember to keep those wings and halos to a minimum during your next virtual interview!!!!

Ten tips for the interview : follow-up

I came across this excellent article written by Carol Martin a professional career coach. The tips that she provides are useful and have stood the test of time! So read and learn!!!!

Not getting a follow-up call when promised is a very common occurrence. Candidates are sometimes sure that they aced the interview and are perfect for the position, in fact they are anticipating a call and an offer. But instead they get "nothing." No offer; no call. They never hear from the company. This is not only frustrating, but reflects poorly on the company. In fact it is rude. What can you do about this situation? Here are some tips on how to handle the follow up that may save you from some anxiety.

1. Try to find out about the decision-process before you leave the interview. Ask when you could expect to hear back. Take that date and then add a few days before you start to worry.

2. Always send a follow up addressing any concerns you may have picked up or any thoughts you had about the position since the interview. Think of this as one more chance to put yourself in front of them.

3. After you have waited for a reasonable period beyond the date they stated, call and inquire as to the status of the position and whether you are still in the running.

4. As a general rule, don't call on Mondays - bad day to market anything. 5. If you leave a message inquiring about the status of the job, and no one calls you back after a couple of attempts - move on and forget about it. Don't call back more than a couple of times. There is a fine line between being persistent and being a pest. 6. If you are told you are no longer under consideration, try asking for feedback (most of the time they won't give you any, but still worth a try). Ask if there is any additional information that you can supply that will convince them that you are the right person for the job.

7. Don't rely on one job interview. No matter what was said in the interview â€“ continue your search. There have been too many bad examples of those who thought they were a shoe-in - only to get a reject letter.

8. Don't take it personally! There are about a thousand reasons that could have affected your chances.

9. Accept the fact that not all companies are right for you. Just like blind dates - they are checking you out and you are checking them out. Sometimes it's chemistry â€“ and sometimes it wasn't right for you â€“ for whatever reason.

10.Try not to get discouraged by the rejects. It's a numbers game and your turn will come if you hang in there.

The top ten interview questions you hesitate to answer

Some of the questions may seem silly or ridiculous, according to interviewing etiquette and protocol (and how much you want the job) you are required to answer them. The intent of many of these questions is not to be flippant or intrusive but to determine whether a candidate can think quickly on his/her feet or field difficult questions that they may encounter as an employee.

An appropriate response to difficult interview questions (that appear to be personal or overly intrusive) is to couch your responses in the context of the position rather than revealing your true feelings or motivations. For example, if an interviewer asks: “Why are you looking for a new job”? An appropriate answer may be: “I am seeking new opportunities and challenges and I believe that I can find them at your company”. Don’t say: “My funding is running out or I can’t stand my boss anymore or I hate what I am currently doing.” In this instance, the interviewer isn’t really asking about your personal reasons or motives for looking for a new job or leaving an old one. He/she is probing to determine what your level of interest is in the job and whether you will be able to get along with employees who are already working for the company.

In my opinion, the best way to deal with personal or difficult interview questions is to be aware that they exist and to prepare “canned” answers for them. That said, I suggest that you carefully review the list of questions below and design well-crafted responses to each of them. Further, I think it is a good idea to conduct “mock interviews” with friends or colleagues to determine whether the responses that you crafted are sufficient and convincing enough. In my experiences, friends and colleagues have always been good barometers for the answers that I came up with. Hint: If they start laughing uncontrollably or look shocked or dismayed after you have answered a question, it may be a good idea to come up with a new answer.

While you may not be asked all of the questions on the list, I am willing to bet that you will be asked at least one of them!

Candidates Dressing Correctly At Job Interviews

Dress The Part:
When preparing for a job interview (as with preparing your professional resumes), whether with one person or an entire team of people, it is important to remember you are representing a salable product: YOU. The way in which you walk, speak and appear makes an impression.

Much has been said about the importance of personal appearance by job candidates when going to job interviews, yet examples abound every day of people getting it wrong. Here are a few things to remember when heading out the door to that hard-won interview.

Appearance Matters!
• I used to know managers who said they decided on a job candidate at the handshake. Studies show this is quite common. In that brief moment, it is not what you say that may matter most to them, but what your appearance says about you.

• Candidates interviewing with organizations having casual work environments are especially prone to error in knowing how to dress. Because all not casual clothing is suitable for every work environment, you must determine what is appropriate to wear to the interview. Clothing that works well for the beach, yard work, dance club, exercise session, and sporting event may not be appropriate for a professional appearance at work.

• Clothing that reveals too much cleavage, back, chest, feet, stomach or underwear is not appropriate for most places of business, even in business casual settings. Additionally, clothing should be pressed and never wrinkled, and is generally unacceptable if torn, dirty, or frayed. Clothing having words or pictures that may be offensive is unacceptable, but clothing with fashion brand names conservatively displayed (e.g., Dockers, Izod, etc.), is usually okay.

• Proper dress for an interview in a business casual environment does not necessarily mean wearing a suit and tie. Even if the interviewer is sitting there in a t-shirt and jeans with big holes in the knees, it is best practice for you to present a clean, neat appearance, and be dressed to a higher standard than the workplace/job requires. Candidates are never down-rated for dressing too well, but frequently are for not looking the part.

Please remember to take a good look at yourself through the eyes of an interviewer before going to that interview, take steps to dress appropriately, and work hard at closing the "sale." Oh, what happened with the candidate mentioned at the beginning of this article? He was not considered a good job fit and did not get the job.

Preparing For Executive Interviews

So how do you properly prepare for executive-level interviews? There are a number of steps involved to get you on the right track and keep you there. Let’s take a look at what they are …

Make Sure You’re Impeccably Organized

If you’re applying with more than one company at a time then you want to make sure that you don’t mix them up as you keep track of specific details. How embarrassing would it be to recite incorrect statistical data, or reference a conversation from a representative of the wrong company in the interview? But this is not the only reason you need to make sure you’re organized.

Additionally, you want to make sure that you have studied the position you’re applying for inside and out. This takes a lot of time because you not only want to understand the position in relation to the inner workings of the company, but also in relation to the industry as a whole. As an executive, you will be expected to broaden the scope of the company, so before even going in for the interview, it’s good to organize ideas on how you intend to do just that if you’re accepted for the position.

Prepare Even More

So you’d consider yourself to be pretty organized at this point. You’ve determined what the company is looking for, how it relates to industry trends, and how you can make your contributions. But there’s even more preparation to consider. First, it’s good to know who your interviewer(s) is. If you already have a name, you can search for background information on business acquaintances, work experience and more via Google, DogPile, or LinkedIn. Additionally, it’s good to tailor your references to the interview, especially if you have internal connections. There’s nothing wrong with a little name-dropping as long as it fits the context of the conversation.

Dress to Impress

Something else to keep in mind is what you’ll wear to your interview. Since much of how you’re perceived is based upon how you look, it’s a good idea to prepare clothes for not just your first interview, but the possible second or third ones as well. You don’t want to wear the same suit to more than one interview with the same company.

Also, if you smoke, you don’t want the interviewer to know it. So keep this all in mind as you prepare your suits.

Before You Walk Out the Door …

Finally, before you walk out the door, don’t forget to bring extra resumes, as well as other materials/ideas in an interview folder. Some of those other materials/ideas may include interviewers’ names, pads of paper, a pen, key points you want to bring up, and your key skills.

The more prepared you are for your executive interview, the better your chances are of securing the position you want. So keep this in mind as you get yourself organized.

Getting The Job You Desire: Preparing For Various Interview Types

Sometimes you know what type of interview you’re going to walk into and sometimes you don’t. So to be prepared for anything, let’s take a brief look at varying interview types.

The Screening Interview

Often times, when you apply for a job, the company will look over your resume and cover letter as a sort of filtering process to determine whether you’re generally qualified for the job. However, on occasion, a company might go one step further by conducting what is known as a screening interview. In this interview – which might be conducted in person or over the phone – a representative will ask you some questions to determine your interest in the job and basic qualifications.

Structured Interview

Another interview type that you might be prepared for – and that is quite common – is the structured interview. In this type of interview, the interviewer will ask specific, predetermined questions meant to explore experience, skills and personality traits. The goal of this type of interview is to find the ideal candidate. Very often, this interview is the determining factor in whether you will be hired for a position.

Stress Interview

This type of interview style is rarer than others because it is a bit unorthodox. During this interview, the interviewer will try to intentionally upset you to see how you might react under pressure. You might be asked questions designed to make you feel uncomfortable. Or the interviewer may interrupt you while you’re speaking.

Group Interview

The group interview is pretty much just what you think it is. It is a number of representatives from the company opting to interview you at the same time. Often times, each member of the group is designated a style of questions to ask (ex. stress). However, other times, the interviewers may be allowed to start a sort of “free for all” as long as they don’t step on the toes of other interviewers.

Multiple Interviews

If you have been moving up the corporate ladder over the past few years then you may have noticed that you first started with structured interviews only. However, as you’re moving higher up the chain, you may be participating in multiple interviews.

Multiple interviews are usually a combination of several types of interviews you’re already familiar with. For instance, you may first undergo a screening interview so they can determine whether you’re qualified to move on to the next step. Then you may attend a group interview where multiple representatives will have an opportunity to determine your qualifications. Finally, you might go to an informal interview – possibly at a lunch – where you meet with one or more interviewers to talk casually about the job.

There are other interview types out there to consider, including targeted and situational. By knowing what’s out there, you can more easily prepare for any interviewing scenario you find yourself in.

Importance Of Body Language In Interviews

It is said that body language always tells the truth. If we can't trust on what we see or what we hear, we should go by body language of the person. When an interview is being conducted, effective use of body language should be made by the interviewee. Interviewee should sit comfortably in the chair. He shouldn't sit in stiff position. He should maintain an eye to eye contact with the interviewer. He should sit in appropriate and confident posture, straight and balanced. His hands should be neatly placed in the laps or in the arms of the chair. All these convey to the interviewer that interviewee is smart, confident, energetic, assertive and cautious. It leaves a good impression. There is no need to feel shy, hesitant or conscious.

It should be remembered that employers are human and kind. Arriving on time is most important. Time should be always valued. After being punctual and arriving at right place, it is important to relax. Waiting graciously is always recommended. The interviewee shouldn't show eagerness and shouldn't be impatient. Tip 1 - Remember the Goal

When writing your resume, it's important to begin with the end in mind. What do you want your resume to accomplish?

The purpose of the resume and cover letter is to land you a job interview. A secondary purpose is to pre-sell the interviewer on your value before you walk into the room.

Think of writing your resume as the opportunity to capture the perfect pitch that sells you as the right candidate for a job.

This is your chance to say all of the right things, without having to worry about whether you'll stutter, or hem and haw.

This is your chance to sit in a relaxed environment and create a miniature salesman - one who flawlessly delivers the perfect pitch - which you can send to hundreds of employer’s offices.

And it's your chance to do so in a low-stress environment – your living room – where no one else ever has to know that you didn't know how to get started or sweated bullets and suffered from writer's block.

Tip 2 - Your Resume Should Sell You - in Print

Others have spoken of a resume as a marketing document, but I say that it is a sales document. Why? Because when people hear the word "marketing" they think of super-bowl-commercial-type marketing, not the give-me-what-I-want-now attitude that a good salesman has.

And that's fine for others; let them try to create a good image and personal brand awareness for themselves while you and I go out and get a job using good salesmanship.

If you can find out what their reasons are and show them how you deliver the results they want, then you will have success in your job search.

The following sales strategy will set you apart from 90% of your competition for a job.

When most people sit down to write a resume, their thinking turns inward – “How can I write about me?” is the thought in their mind. But a good salesman knows that a sales pitch is never about you, it's about the customer.

In this case it's all about the employer and what they want. Show them how they can have what they want by hiring you and you'll have the job.

This is the over-arching theme that should be running in the back of your mind every time you work on your resume – “What does this employer want to see and hear?”

Every sentence, every bullet, and every time you're not sure whether to include something, ask yourself "What do they want to hear?"

Tips To Ace Your Airline Pilot Interview

You've been slogging around in crummy weather flying checks or doing crunch and goes as a flight instructor for a long time now. Or perhaps you are at a regional and got your dream shot at a major. Maybe you just retired from military flying and are headed to your first airline interview.

Whatever the case, you have your big day coming up and you don't want to blow it. Although the shine has worn off from airline jobs in recent years, they are still highly coveted jobs with plenty of qualified applicants clamoring for them. The thought of an interview and all the hoops to jump through seems daunting. The good news is that there is a lot of support out there from people who have been there.

Many companies, from regionals, cargo, majors, etc., follow fairly similar formats for interviews. I have gone through the process several times, including regional and major interviews. I have found a few general tips that are applicable anywhere and should help you:

1) Company IQ - Make sure you have done some basic research on the company and are confident it is one you would be happy at. Make sure on the day of the interview you know the president, CEO, stock price, fleet, bases, and principles of the company at a minimum...there may be a pop quiz during the interview!

2) Survive the Sweatbox - Some interviews have simulator rides. The profile will be pretty basic and you won't be expected to be Yeager, but they are looking for basic airmanship. There are many prep companies out there, usually $500-$1000. If doing the prep takes the edge off and gives you confidence going into the interview, by all means do it. That $500 is chump change compared to the career earnings at a major. It would be a shame to lose your dream shot because you wanted to save a few bucks. Better to regret spending the money than regret not spending it!

3) Be Paranoid - Make sure you are on your best behavior at all times! Most airlines will fly you from you home to their headquarters on their airline. The interview starts as soon as you step foot into the airport. Some guys have blown it by giving ticket and gate agents a hard time. It may not be hard for an agent to deduce that you are interviewing and make a phone call to HR, sinking you then and there..IT HAS HAPPENED (especially if you are interviewing at a certain Texas LCC!) Smile and treat everyone respectfully because they are watching.

4) Know thy question - You know the expression RTFQ? When you are interviewing, LTTFQ!

Airlines used to ask What Would you Do type questions, but most interviews these days are Tell Me About a Time (TMAT) where they want you to tell them a story about something that happened to you. They feel that past behavior will predict future behavior. The format for the answer should be the SAR model:

Situation - give them a brief overview of the problem or situation
Action - how did you decide to solve the problem
Result - what was the end result of your action and what did you learn

Sometimes you have to decode the questions. For instance, they may ask "TMAT your schedule changed?" On the surface it may seem like a strange question, but what they are really asking is if they junior man you and make you work into a day off, will you get mad and storm off the jetway or will you make a positive experience out of it? Thus you would want to tell them about a story where you got your day off rolled but saw it as an opportunity to make more money, help the company, etc.

5) CRM: Use all resources - There are tons of resources out there for you. Wikpedia is good for researching the company. There are several "gouge" sites where people who interviewed post their experience. I strongly recommend an interview prep service that specializes in airline interviews, they will teach you what they are looking for when they ask questions and how to formulate your own answer. However, you don't want to sound "canned" as the interviewers are trained to see through it.

Some interviews, such as Cathay Pacific, are more in-depth than typical interview, and there are guides out there that explain how.

Different Types Of Interview

An Interview is a communication between interviewee and interviewer in which a trained interviewer asks questions from respondents to elicit self reports of their opinions, attitudes, values, beliefs or behaviors. Interviews are usually carried out face to face although they can be conducted via telephone, interactive video or compute. The interviewer usually records responses of respondents. Usually this process is carried out in the organization at the time of selecting the candidate.

The questions asked in interview may be of following types:

Open Ended Questions: Usually subjective type questions where respondents can explain their answers and justify them. Example: Describe yourself Closed Ended Questions: In these types of questions respondents have little or no room for explanation. Questions are mostly multiple choice type questions. Sometimes respondents have to answer in YES or NO choice. Example: Are you the resident of this city?

Sometimes interviewers make respondents squirm with difficult questions, this mainly happens when the candidates are applying for more stressful jobs. Sometimes interviewers feel that by asking offensive questions they will be able to see the applicants true capabilities and weed out those personalities who wont fit in particular environment.

Types of Interview:

Informal Interview: These are interviews in which all informal questions are asked except few job related questions. These interviews are non-structured.

Formal Interview: These are types of interviews which held in standard place like employment office or organization premises and questions are asked by panel of interviewers and questions are structured.

Planned Interview: These are formal interviews in which questions to be asked, time per candidate, modus of operandi are all worked out beforehand.

Patterned Interview: Planned interview with high accuracy and patterned with sequence.

Depth Interview: These interviewers are conducted when candidate is found to be good and interviewers desires to ask more questions from him.

Looking for feedback on my work, I sent the exact same resume to 2 trusted recruiters and got the following 2 gut reactions:

The take home message: You can't please everyone. That said, you can still win interviews from hiring managers whose resume preferences differ from your own. Just make sure you cover these "bases" within the first third of page one:

2. Include personality traits and work skills that convey to the hiring manager your ability to meet the job requirements. This can be accomplished in just a handful of carefully chosen words or bullet points. This piece can also help to address the keyword/scanning software issue.

3. List at least 2 or 3 tangible accomplishments early that make you look like a hot shot *and* directly relate to your target job. You can add these into a career summary or go with a shorter summary and get to "Job Experience" bullet points more quickly.

4. Do steps 1-3 in very clear and concise manner. When picking a format, think about directing the reader's eye. Like a billboard, an effective resume should tell the reader what to read first, second, and third by the way it uses font size, boldface, rule lines, indenting, etc. Be deliberate about your format; it's not just about picking a pretty template.

A resume objective can make or break your resume. For some "seasoned" HR employees they simply skip over the resume objective since people put so much "fluff" in them they have lost all their meaning.

For others the resume objective is read and "fluff" or not ... they know what kind of resume they have based on what's been written!

Regardless of WHO reads it or HOW its read the resume objective for most resume templates is at the top of the page! So it's often the 1st section of a resume that's "seen" if not read.

Since you have NO idea if the person you have sent your resume to views the resume objective as important or not it's important to assume they do and write a resume objective that stands out!

The resume objective should, generally speaking, be a sentence or two long and basically answer the question of "why are you the best candidate for the job".

For this reason every resume you submit should have a unique resume objective targeting the specific position you are applying for!

In each position you apply for you should have a fairly extensive job description describing the position and the key qualities they are looking for. This is your "cliff notes" to EXACTLY what you need to put into the resume objective.

For example ... here is a typical job description for the role of a "Supervisor" (specific references to the employer have been removed).

ASCII Resumes: An Essential Ingredient to Today's Job Search

ASCII (pronounced ask-ee) stands for American Standard Code for Information Interchange. So what's that mean?

Computers can only read numbers. Technically speaking, ASCII is a numerical representation of the letters, digits, punctuation marks, and other symbols used in conversational English. It was created in 1968 to allow data processors to "talk" to each other and, although it's been upgraded, ASCII continues to be the "alphabet" almost all computers use to communicate.

That said, when a hiring manager asks for an ASCII or "text-only" version of your resume, all you really need to know is that they're looking for an unformatted, plain-text document.

ASCII documents do not contain underlining, boldface, italics, bullets, rule lines, graphics, font choices, or any of the formatting pizzazz you're used to with contemporary word processors. Because ASCII files are content-driven, they usually lack uniqueness and visual appeal.

So why would you want to deliver such a "bare bones" document to someone you're aiming to impress?

There are several reasons:

1. VERSATILITY --

ASCII documents are universally readable by any computer in the United States. Delivering your resume in ASCII prevents compatibility issues between applications. Here are a few situations to demonstrate how file-format incompatibilities can obstruct your candidacy.

Situation #2: Your resume uses features only available in the latest version of (say) MS Word, but your target company uses an earlier version. Result: The target company cannot open the file and your efforts are wasted.

Situation #3: You create a resume using a font that is not a standard part of the Windows or Macintosh operating systems, and your target company hasn't installed that same font. Result: The target company will, in this case, be able to open the file. However, your resume will not appear as you intended. Among other problems, characters unique to the font you used will be rendered as unintelligible symbols.

In all cases, it's unlikely that the company is going to ask you to resend your resume. They'll just move on to the next candidate.

ASCII resumes can be "cut & pasted" directly into the body of an email message or web-based form, without compromising the resume's format. If you tried the same trick straight from word-processing applications such as Microsoft Word, Corel WordPerfect, or Adobe FrameMaker, you'd sacrifice most of your resume formatting as well as introduce ugly line breaks and non-standard characters, making your credentials substantially harder to discern.

3. SPEED --

Because ASCII resumes can be embedded in an email message, you can avoid sending email attachments, which saves the hiring manager the time and effort of downloading and opening your file.

4. SAFETY --

Email attachments can carry viruses. Wary recipients may delete your email and its attachment altogether to avoid crashing their system. This really happens, especially in HR departments! By sending your resume embedded in email, you eliminate this possibility.

5. CONVERTIBILITY --

ASCII resumes are easily transplanted from the body of an email message into an employer's database, so your resume is searchable immediately.

6. SCANNABILITY --

Busy companies often use scanning software or Electronic Applicant Tracking Systems (EATS) such as Resumix or ResTrac to wade through their candidate pool. ASCII resumes are ideal, and therefore preferred, for scanning since they do not contain unusual bullets, fonts, or graphics that computers often have a hard time deciphering.

7. MOBILITY --

ASCII resumes embedded in email are simple to pass around the office. A Human Resources representative simply forwards your message and the recipient can begin examining your credentials within seconds without having to open a separate program.

8. MARKETABILITY --

Sending along an ASCII resume, especially one that's been edited and laid out carefully, proves you are technologically adept and, in the event that your target company requests such a resume, a good listener.

9. VISIBILITY --

If you choose to use job boards, you may want to protect yourself by eliminating your street address and personal phone number(s) from your resume. Also, dating the resume is a good idea, since it will inevitably circulate the web for several months.

Perhaps you're still unconvinced that you need an ASCII resume. Chances are (especially if you're applying to a larger corporation) that your beautifully formatted non-ASCII resume will be converted into a plain text file so that it can be scanned more easily by the recipient's computer system. So why bother to duplicate their effort?

Our answer: To improve your chances of being noticed.

In converting a non-ASCII document, such as an MS Word file, to ASCII, all of the character formatting (font selection, point size, style) as well as the non-character formatting (margin settings, soft line breaks, section breaks, tab settings, graphics, tables) disappear. Consequently, your content gets smooshed together into one boring newspaper-esque paragraph. Crucial information gets buried. Job titles, statistics, company names, and dates all drown in a sea of undifferentiated text.

If you are a college or university student studying for one or another professional or academic qualification, chances are that you will have to undertake a research project as part of your course - and write a research paper out of it.

Many people view the task of writing a research paper as a difficult one; which it need not be if you go about it in the right way. Incidentally, most of the people who come to experience difficulties when writing their research papers tend to be those who opt to do it at the very last moment (when the deadline is fast approaching), which more often than not leads to not only the perception that research paper writing is a difficult undertaking, but also in mediocre results. Therefore, the first step towards easy research paper writing is making adequate time for the task, and ideally starting on it as soon as you are given the assignment; rather than waiting for the deadline to draw near before getting started. Research-paper writing is usually preceded by the identification of a research topic. The way this is done varies from school to school, and even from course to course. In some schools, the instructors walk with the students through the process of research topic identification; whereas in some schools, it is upon the students to work out a research topic for themselves- and then submit it to their instructors for approval (or rejection).

Making snap judgements about people is human nature, and a lot of interviewers believe that a candidate's dress code says a lot about him or her. Make the right impression on the interviewers by thinking carefully about what to wear on the big day.

Not that long ago, interviewers expected all candidates to turn up in suits. Now, an increasing number of organisations have relaxed their dress codes, and it has become impossible to prescribe how to dress for just about any interview.

Look, saying your job search will die if you can't prioritize are strong words. Of course, people find jobs every day without having a plan ... or even knowing what the word "prioritize" even means.

But unless you want to depend mostly on luck, you need to have a plan, you need to prioritize that plan, and you need to work that plan.

So, how do you prioritize your job search?

1. Set Goals

Without knowing where you're going, you'll never even know if you get there. The first step is to define what you're looking for in the job you seek. What is important to you? What does that job look like?

But your goal should not be limited to just your ultimate goal, that of getting a job. You should have monthly, weekly, and daily goals as well. For instance, maybe your daily goal is to find 2, or 3, or 10 new leads. Or a certain number of new networking sources. Or a certain number of companies hiring. Or a certain number of interviews scheduled. Smaller goals help you stay on track, give you small successes, and help you stay motivated whereas a large goal can sometimes be overwhelming.

2. Develop A Routine

Believe me, structure helps. Rather than having to re-plan every day, over and over again, when you have a set structure you just do what you do everyday. Saves time. Saves energy.

Your structure might be determined by the day of the week, or by certain hours of each day. Setup your structure based on efficiency. For instance, most people (not all) seem to have the most "brain power" first thing in the morning. So, when setting up your daily structure, try to do things that require the most thought, creativity or brain power for that time of the day. Some people schedule things they like the least first, knowing that once they get those things over with they can move on to more enjoyable tasks.

3. Avoid The "Time Thieves"

So, you need to find a job. Hopefully one you enjoy, and one that pays you enough for all your needs. You're committed to your job search. Now it's time to proceed.

But wait. Answer this question: "what is the single most important thing you need to do to find success with your job search?"

It's called Planning and Prioritizing.

(Okay, that's two things ... but I'm lumping them together into the one most important thing you need to do. Obviously, while we're being so transparent here, you can plan and prioritize 'til you're blue in the face and it won't get you a new job ... there are other things you need to do. But without Planning and Prioritizing, everything else you do will be hit or miss. That's why I say this is the most important "secret" to finding the dream job you want.)

Weekly Planning and Prioritizing.

Commit to spending at least 30 minutes a week (I think Sunday is the best day for this), and another 10 minutes at the beginning of each day (or the night before) writing down a job search to-do list, and then prioritizing that list. Do this consistently until it's a habit, one you do without fail.

Why?

Because otherwise your efforts will be all over the place. You will constantly only deal with daily living issues that come up, you will be distracted by all the little things that always are trying to steal your time.

You need to be totally FOCUSED on your job search, at least during certain periods of time while you accomplish everything you have on your to-do list for the day.

To-Do List

For your to-do list, I prefer to make a "macro" list for the week on Sunday. I'm usually relaxed on Sunday, and can think about my list without being so rushed. I list everything I can think of. I use three columns:

1. Immediate Things-To-Do 2. Most Important Things-To-Do 3. Other Things-To-Do Prioritize

This is where most people have issues. What is most important? Is it better to do a bunch of little, faster items or to work on one big thing to do? Should you dig up new leads? Expand your network? Cultivate the leads you already have?

The Answer Is "Balance"

Ideally, on a typical day, you should work on all components of your job search. This would include:

1. Generating New Leads 2. Following Up On Previous Leads 3. Arranging Interviews 4. Step #1: The Heading

Think of the hiring professional as your customer, and your resume as the product you are marketing or trying to sell. A good salesman sells a product to a prospective customer based on product benefits, and how that product will add more value to the purchaser's lifestyle. Consumers, especially now with the downturn of the economy, buy products based on value, not merely based on price.

Now back to your resume. When your resume is what Certified Professional Resume Writers such as myself, call "value-based," it communicates the benefits you will bring to the prospective employer if you are hired, and it answers the question, "Why should I hire you?" While your long or short work history is important, your education, and your skills, employers look for the value you will bring to their organization when reading your resume, and you have 15-20 seconds or less in which to do that.

Thinking a little differently about your resume huh? Well you should! Always write your resume from an employers view, not your view because the employer is your audience. You're not going out there to hire yourself!

There are only 3 important sections of your resume that will make it a value-based one, the heading, the showcase, and the evidence.

Heading: This is your 1st step and the easiest to do. The heading includes the basic contact information for the hiring employer to reach you. It generally includes your name, street address, city or town, state, zip code, a telephone number to reach you at (home and/or cell phone), and your email address. It's okay to put the name that people call you by, for example most people who have the 1st name of William, are often called Bill, depending on the job you are applying for. If the job is a highly conservative one, you may want to use William instead. As far as your address I wouldn't use a PO Box, and your email should be a professional one.

Step #2: The Showcase

Sit down and write everything about yourself that makes you unique with each position you had from the current to the previous. Ask your friends and colleagues what they like most about you. Remember employers want to know how you can make a difference in their organization and enhance their bottom line. Your intentions are to spark enough interest in the reader to read the rest of your resume in 2-5 short phrases using a creative format. This format will serve as your billboard. For examples on how a typical billboard will look, just ask me and I can send them to you.

Step #3: The Evidence

When listing your work history, don't just list job duties, and try to stay away from the phrase "Responsible for". Accomplishments or achievements get you hired, not job responsibilities. The hiring manager already knows the responsibilities of the position they are trying to fill. Can you see why I said previously in Step #2, write your resume from an employer's point of view, not yours, because it's the employer that is your audience. It makes sense to do so.

If I'm looking to hire an administrative assistant, I already know what they do. All administrative assistants basically do the same thing. So, what's going to separate you from the other 200 administrative assistants that sent me their resumes? You really need to think about that. Refer back to the list of things you wrote about you in Step #2, and incorporate it into your work history.

An employer wants to see the results of your work, not just your job duties and responsibilities. But, only those things that brought sustained results to the company. You're not going to list everything that you did. You're going to list only those things that brought the greatest rewards or results to your employer. I can't write that for you, you have to know these things about yourself. Only you know you! Make sense? Anywhere you can use quantitative measurements, use them, especially in a sales position. Numbers speak louder than words.

Overall a 1-2 page resume depending to your work history is just fine. But remember it has to be reader friendly, visually pleasing to read, and filled with those action verbs that are emotionally charging. Now you can see how important this marketing tool is, and the impact it will have on your success. We want employers to contact us, right? Sure, but what about unsavory sorts like identity thieves? They could use your street address to gain access to your personal financial information. And let's not even discuss all of the other sordid people out their cruising the information highway. The odds of falling victim to scams or other acts of foul play are slim but, as I explain below, why not eliminate risk completely while gaining a competitive advantage at the same time.

2. Rejection Letters

Suppose the company has already selected another candidate, you now have an opportunity to ask about other openings in the company and to describe how you could be an asset to the company in another role. If the caller is familiar with you (perhaps he or she interviewed you), you could say, "I know I have a lot of value to offer the right company and I'd like to perform better on future interviews. Would you mind telling me what you thought my biggest strengths and weaknesses were from our interview?" Most likely, the person on the other end of the line will be more than happy to help you (it eases the guilt of having to deliver bad news).

3. Economic Profiling

If you live in a super posh neighborhood, they might overlook you thinking they can't afford your salary requirements.

Several of my colleagues just conducted an impromptu survey of HR professionals and found that most agree your physical address is not essential information to provide on your resume. Several respondents posed a very interesting reason for not including your physical address, one that I had not considered when writing this article: some employers will look at your street address to determine how long your work commute would be. Some actually weed out good candidates simply because they feel the commute might be too long.

It seems no matter how good we have it, we all want a better job. That means keeping track of job listings, networking, tracking down leads, analyzing potential employers and scheduling interviews. But these depend on other people, word of mouth, and the quality and quantity of job postings available at any given time.

Only your resume gives you total control over how you're perceived by potential employers. It doesn't have to be a passive job listing with subjective information on why you think you're a great and wonderful person (which of course you are).

Perhaps you don't think of you're a very good writer, and just don't like "writing about yourself." Once you have these items, group similar words together and list your level of proficiency, for example:

Skilled in sales, marketing and new business development, including full responsibility for account acquisition and management. Proficient in total project management, from technical staff training to product design, development and rollout in major national markets.

Comprehensive experience in finance, accounting and C-level audits, including strategic planning, team training, quality control and client relations. This gives you total control over how you're perceived by employers. Consistently Market Your Skills and Abilities --

This can be the most difficult task on any resume, and it has to be written just right. You're Selling Yourself
When preparing for a job interview, whether with one person or an entire team of people, it is important to remember you are representing a salable product: YOU. The way in which you walk, speak and appear makes an impression.

Much has been said about the importance of personal appearance by job candidates when going to job interviews, yet examples abound every day of people getting it wrong. Here are a few things to remember when heading out the door to that hard-won interview.

I used to know managers who said they decided on a job candidate at the handshake. Studies show this is quite common. In that brief moment, it is not what you say that may matter most to them, but what your appearance says about you.

Because all not casual clothing is suitable for every work environment, you must determine what is appropriate to wear to the interview. Clothing that reveals too much cleavage, back, chest, feet, stomach or underwear is not appropriate for most places of business, even in business casual settings. I admit it. Even the best of us at times cringe when we have to write the cover letter. After all, intuitively it seems so redundant. What can I tell this employer that he isn't going to read in my resume?

At least that's how I used to think. Now I understand that the cover letter is meant more as a formal introduction, the chance you have to explain how you discovered the job opening or the company.

It's also an excellent chance to display those now well-developed direct-response copywriting talents you have.

Instead of making the cover letter just another letter that introduces you, write it with a bit of flair so that it creates a curiosity about just what your true potential is. A well-written cover letter can do more to advance your resume than you would ever have thought possible.

Where do you begin?

Here are a few tips to get you started.

1) Always address your cover letter to a real person. If you don't know the name of the person, call the company. This one action is far more important than you can ever know. Not only does it show you have initiative, but a letter addressed to Human Resources or Department Head will not receive the attention it should.

2) Use benefit-driven copy. Do a little homework. Find out something about the corporation that is relevant to your profession. Then use this as a reason.

that the 2nd most powerful website on the entire Worldwide-Web may
file BANKRUPTCY, with the deadline set for this December; being the
date of both discharge and dissolution in a Federal Court of Law.

This would come as a SHOCK to investors and "Googlers" alike who
both profit and benefit from the use of the World's largest and
most powerful search engine which receives far in excess of
100 MILLION unique daily visitors and well over 300 million
individual searches daily - making it perhaps the single most
valuable public data resource as an "information bank" online the
world over.

But is the rumor true or false?

The origin of the rumor occurred when some savvy Internet marketers
began making statements that they had heard "insiders' talk" that
the company (now publicly traded since April 30, 2004, just over 3
years ago) may face financial disaster with the release of a "new
system" that would allow advertisers to get their otherwise
pay-per-click (PPC) advertising completely free.

This, of course, would naturally lead directly (like a domino-
effect) to the collapse of Google's sibling program AdSense; as its
only revenue comes from the direct sales of AdWords "clicks."

The "new system" in question and responsible for the controversy
over getting AdWords pay-per-clicks free is that developed by
Dr Jon Cohen of New York City, New York (now retired) who discovered
a simple, yet effective means, for getting Google PPC ads without
having to suffer the costs involved.

The retired New York doctor and native has a publicly disclosed net
worth now in excess of $7O million [US], having generated well over
$377 million in product sales from sixteen (16) separate online
businesses within just nine (9) years since first venturing online
in 1998 (about the same time as Google was founded).

It is estimated by company insiders and leading financial analysts
that the "good doctor" (as he's called by "all who know him") has
purportedly saved well over $93 million (some estimates suggest
closer to $136 million) in otherwise paid advertising at Google and
the other major players in the PPC targeted-search arena online -
including Yahoo, MSN, AskJeeves, AllTheWeb.com, HotBot, AltaVista,
Lycos and Netscape, just to name a few.

The "secret" became available to the general masses last April, and
its very release caused such a major sweeping stir among the
community of Internet-marketers, affiliate-marketers, webmasters,
ecommerce company owners and surfers alike that the site quickly
rose to break the top most visited 1,000 websites on the entire

When asked if the "secret" would somehow ruin Google, Dr Cohen
revealed almost cryptically that it actually would bring about just
the opposite effect, and "stimulate" even more business volume for

allowing the purchase of 100,000's of PPC ads offering the secret
system to the general public -- which indicates to most observers
that either they [Google] haven't caught it, or they simply feel
that it somehow is not a threat to their continued operation.

and talk to visitors and explain a bit more how the mysterious new
breakthrough system works.

The refund rate for the new revised version of the secret (named
V5.1) has dropped to less than half of what it was before the newer
version's release; meaning it's now even more readily-received and

their revenues from the reselling of other electronic publishers'
stock and digital product lines.

When asked, Google company representatives stated matter-of-factly
that the rumors of bankruptcy for the ecommerce giant are simply
not true, and that the rumor millings are in fact simply the result
of "panics" brought on by the usual hysteria associated with

Attempts to contact both Sergey Brin and Larry Page, the former
